Ever wonder what the number -not the price- on the tire cap label (at least on my tires) MEANS??? It is the TIRE HARDNESS READING. In the 'olden days' or for slightly younger folks "back in the day", people would squeeze the tires trying to figure out how hard they were before they bought them. This left marks on the tires & left them looking used at times if the customer decided not to buy that pair of tires...remember they were colored rubber tires back then.
Eventually, we started running other types of black rubber that isn't just a black dye like the other colored rubber. Still, like tomatoes, they don't require squeezing. You can sort them by hardness by using a DUROMETER. It's not a new device & can be helpful to MATCH your tires. This one is Digital which is so much easier to use & has a big pointer on it which helps getting accurate readings on any tire especially the bigger than a .500 O.D. hub ones.
THE BIGGER THE NUMBER...THE HARDER THE TIRE!!!
